The PMBeef Council on Wellness and Nutrition is dedicated to bringing you the latest facts concerning BEEF and Nutrition.
Did you know that BEEF is a key part in a healthy nutritious meal?
Iron and Zinc are important to keep our bodies and our immune systems strong.
One serving of lean beef is an excellent source of iron and zinc. In fact, on average, beef has three times more iron than chicken.
Other key nutrients found in beef are protein, the building blocks of the human body, and B-complex vitamins.
Did you know that vitamin B-12 is found abundantly in red meat and is not found in animal products?
Now you know BEEF is packed full of nutrients, but what about fat?
According to the American Dietetic Association, fat is an essential component in all diets. We just need to make sure we don’t overdo it. The good news about beef is that today’s cattle are much leaner and cuts are trimmed more precisely. As a result, beef is significantly leaner than it was just 10 years ago. In fact there are seven cuts of beef that fall between a chicken breast and chicken thigh in terms of total fat content. Remember, when you are looking for a lean cut of beef look for the words "round" or "loin".
The "skinny" cuts of beef include:
Eye of the Round
Top Round
Round Tip
Top Sirloin
Bottom Round
Top Loin
Tenderloin
So go ahead and enjoy a healthy portion of lean beef, full of flavor and nutrients! |
